Concert: Tribute to Horowitz

 

Horowitz Competition Kyiv-Geneva and VERE MUSIC FUND present a concert in memory of one of the greatest pianists of all time: Vladimir Horowitz. Four well-known Laureates of the competition will perform a program featuring some of the music the master was famous for.

ILLIA OVCHARENKO

Praised as “technically flawless and impeccably musical” (International Piano), winner of the lauded 2022 Honens International Piano Competition, 21-year old Ukrainian pianist Illia Ovcharenko has taken the piano world by storm.

Ovcharenko embodies Honens’ ideal of the “Complete Artist” with his technical mastery, perseverance against adversity, and an understanding of musical text that is intellectual and emotional.

Highlights of the 2022 / 2023 season include two Carnegie Hall performances and an

international tour spanning Brussels, Paris, Liechtenstein, Portugal, Germany, and Canada.

Ovcharenko has performed with leading orchestras and participated at music festivals worldwide. He is a recipient of the Presidential Scholarship of Ukraine and is represented by Kanzen Artists.

 


POLINA SASKO

Polina Sasko was born 1993 in Ukraine in a family of musicians. Having studied at the Ukrainian National Music Academy, she currently is a student at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Graz, Austria in the class of Prof. Dr. Milana Chernyavska.

In master classes, she has studied with Arie Vardi, Klaus Hellwig, Sofja Gulyak and Grigory Gruzman.

Polina Sasko was awarded the numerous prizes at the International Piano Competitions, such as the: 1st Prize at the “Premio Mauro Paolo Monopoli” (Barletta, Italy) in 2019, 3rd Prize at the Intl. Piano Competition “Shigeru Kawai” (Tokyo, Japan) in 2019, and, among many others, 3rd Prize at the Intl. Competition for Young Pianists in memory of Vladimir Horowitz (Kyiv, Ukraine) in 2010.
 


ANTONII BARYSHEVSKYI


 

Born in Kyiv, Antonii Baryshevskyi graduated from the National Music Academy of Ukraine and from Ecole Normale de Musique de Paris, where he studied with Marian Rybicki.

He participated in master classes with Daniel Pollack, Alfred Brendel and others.

Baryshevskyi is a winner of the Arthur Rubinstein Intl. Piano Master Competition and the Ferruccio Busoni Intl. Piano Competition.

He performed at Progetto Martha Argerich, Klavier Festival Ruhr, and others. He has

recorded for numerous CD labels, including Naxos.

Baryshevskyi is a guest professor at Davidsbündler Music Academy in Den Haag.



VADYM KHOLODENKO

Vadym Kholodenko is fast building a reputation as one of the most musically dynamic and technically gifted young pianists, praised in his performance with the Philadelphia Orchestra “for his absorbing melodic shading [and] glittering passage work” (Philadelphia Enquirer). Winner of the 2013 Cliburn Competition, Kholodenko captivated audiences and critics alike with the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra immediately appointing him their first Artist in Partnership for a period of three years. His latest solo disc on Harmonia Mundi, works by Scriabin won a prestigious Diapason d’Or de l’année.

Previous awards include First Prizes at both the Schubert Piano Competition, Dortmund (2011) and Sendai Piano Competition (2010).

Kholodenko has collaborated with distinguished conductors including Leonard Slatkin, Kirill Karabits, Paul Daniel, Pinchas Zukerman, Ion Marin and Kazuki Yamada. In North America Kholodenko has performed with the Philadelphia Orchestra, Atlanta Symphony, Indianapolis Symphony, Rochester Philharmonic and San Diego Symphony Orchestras, and toured with the Staatskapelle Weimar under Kirill Karabits. He has given recitals throughout the United States including in New York, Washington and Boston and at the Aspen Music Festival.
